How We Discovered Painting the Past

Earlier this year Painting the Past ran an initiative
‘Call for Creators’
They were looking for people who paint furniture, who they’d send a tin of their paint to, in exchange for feedback on their product.
We applied, and we were accepted.

What we Thought

We immediately, and I mean within a brush stroke, loved their product.
The paint is a primer and colour combined – a hybrid between two products.

So, why is this better than traditional furniture painting methods?

When using primer and then paint, your first one to two coats are white primer.
It’s the white of the primer that is adhering to the wood, not the colour of the paint.
The paint then adheres to the primer.

With Painting the Past’s paint, their product is applied directly to the wood, so your chosen colour is adhering like traditional primer, but the pigment of your chosen colour is what’s biting to the wood.

This reduces the number of times a piece has to be painted,
it means every layer of paint is the final colour,
it means scratches won’t expose white primer,
and, it mean’s every coat is an extension of the one that’s
underneath it.

We were in love with their concept, and they loved our work.
